1769 This particular year saw the birth of Napoleon, the Duke of Wellington and Lodge Rutherglen Royal Arch 116 in the Royal Burgh of Rutherglen sponsored the Argyle Lodge of Glasgow No 64.
1770 The first recorded meeting was held in the Tollbooth or as it was locally known as "The Old Jail" although other meetings were held in the houses of the office-bearers to defray the expense to the Lodge. Worth noting that on payment of 1/- (5p) liquor could be had at the harmony on St John's until the "kitty" was exhausted then no more could be had.
The most difficult part of this task is condensing the many articles contained in the history of this Lodge.
1829 However one particular minute is worthy of mention that of the laying of the foundation stone of Hutchison's Bridge between the Saltmarket and Crown St Hutchisontown Space does not permit it to be recorded here. The full minute is contained in the lodge's official history book. Sadly the minute books 1836-1864 appear to have been lost so we have no record of the part played by 116 in the official formation of our sister lodge in Ru'glen of The St John's Lodge 347 under the Grand Lodge banner in 1847, with whom before that time and until this very day we have the most friendly relations.
1897 Saw the opening of our new hall on the 126 th anniversary of the institution of the Lodge by PGM of Renfrewshire East Major FW Allen.
1929 This year saw the Lodge sponsor the third Lodge in the Burgh Lodge Burnside No 1361
1939/1945 During the period of the second world war the lodge rooms were requisitioned by the army and the Lodge met in the West Parish Church Halls, although different Halls the minister of that same Church conducts our Divine services today.
1969 In this year the Lodge reached it's bi-centenary this was celebrated by Grand Lodge of Scotland headed by M.W.G.M. Bro Major Sir Ronald Ewing Bt. and his Office Bearers conducting a most impressive and sincere ceremony. It was particularly pleasing to see the Senior Grand Chaplain Bro. Rev Wm. Wright present, himself a member of 116.
1997 During this year PGL, of Renfrewshire East conducted the ceremony of reconsecration on the 100 th anniversary of the opening of our hall in Queen St. in a most excellent manner.
While this is mostly history from the past, new events create their own history, such as the appointment of Bro Dixon J Drye PM. as Prov. Grand Master of Renfrewshire East in the year 2001, the first brother of the senior Lodge in the Province to attain this high office.
We trust this short resume will give an insight to this grand old Lodge.
